Old Town Newhall Roundabout Assistant Engineer Joel Bareng and Project Manager Balvinder Sandhu accept the award on behalf of the City.

The Southern California Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) named the City of Santa Clarita’s Newhall Roundabout the “2014 Project of the Year.”  The APWA, which recognizes public agencies for their outstanding projects and programs, presented the award to the project team at the organization’s annual awards luncheon in Lakewood.   The project was also recognized as the “Project of the Year” by the APWA’s High Desert Branch at an event earlier this month.

The Newhall Roundabout Project was completed in January 2014 and has greatly enhanced the walkability of Old Town Newhall by providing a pedestrian-friendly link between Hart Park, the Old Town Newhall Library and the businesses on Main Street.  The project has also enhanced safety in and around the area by allowing for a smoother transition of commuter traffic, emergency vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists traveling in and out of Old Town Newhall.
